The UNFCCC intersessionals took place in the first week of April in Bonn. Two CYCC members, Amara Poissan and Joanna Dafoe (representing Adopt a Negotiator) were there. Read their blogs to learn about
the state of the international climate negotiations here:

Once you've completed all 10 you'll be entered for the chance to win fantastic prizes and will get you featured on our "10 for 2010 Wall of Fame" (isn't it great when doing something that makes you feel good also gets you rewarded)!
Are you ready to get started?
Alright then, step one is to download your tracking sheet so that you can keep track of your actions and have something to send to us to be entered for the prize draws. Prize draws will happen throughout 2010, so you'll have lots of chances to win.
Download your tracking sheet on the 10 for 2010 page of the CYCC site and then start working through your ten actions:
Bill C311
passed and will be going to it's final reading in the House of Commons on May 5th when all opposition parties have confirmed they will pass it! With the Climate Change Accountability Act comes real targets in line with the UN's long-term goals. If the Bill is passed by the Senate, it will mean that our government is committed to setting regulations that will lower greenhouse gas emissions: the 2050 target is 80% below the 1990 level. In addition the Liberal motion for climate action also passed. Congratulations to all that helped support the bill and to those who contacted their representatives.
Get to Work MeetUps
Last year 350.org mobilized millions of people world-wide to take action on climate change with their international days of climate action.
Unfortunately despite this outpouring of public support the United Nations Climate Change Meetings in Copenhagen at the end of 2009 did not achieve the fair, agressive, and legally-binding climate agreement we were all hoping for.
Recognizing that we need to pick ourselves up after Copenhagen and continue to push forward for climate justice, 350.org has partnered with 10:10 Global and NGOs around the world (including the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition) to make an even more impressive public statement this year. On October 10, 2010 the world will throw a Global Work Party – installing solar panels on schools, building bike paths, planting community gardens, etc.
In preparation for this exciting day, during the week of April 22-29 MeetUps will take place around the world to brainstorm, plan, get involved and get going. The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition is hoping that youth around Canada will step up and decide to host MeetUps (or join MeetUps that are already planned) around the country.
To register to host a MeetUp go to: http://www.350.org/meetup and then email us (cycc.greenjobs@gmail.com) to let us know so we can help spread the word for you.
Our future and our fate is in their hands of the G20 who are historically responsible for creating the climate crisis. We must make sure our voice is so loud that we can no longer be cast aside by the Canadian government who refuses to take serious climate action. Young people from across Canada are coming to Toronto during the G8G20, for a week long gathering of community organizers united for global justice. Whether you bike, bus, train—you and your group can join thousands to make history this June 2010. Learn more about the cross-Canada Climate Convergence and join the Climate Convergence by contacting us at cycc.convergence@gmail.com.
Can't Come to Toronto? Organize in your community instead...
Organize a flash mob, teach-in, rally, or other action and get your community and local media’s attention during the G8G20 in June. Climate leadership (or lack thereof) by the G20 will affect us all. Let’s safeguard our future. Take action to make sustainable policies, climate justice, and green jobs a reality in Canada. Register your action/event if you/your group would like us to promote it on the CYCC website.
At the Table
At the Table is a Canadian and global civil society campaign, mobilizing citizens to “take their place” alongside world leaders in important global summits. It is a call to leaders to “take their place” in forging bold decisions on the issues people care about—poverty, climate change, and economic justice. CYCC is a partner of the campaign, and encourage youth across Canada to get involved.
For Earth Day, April 22, members of CYCC will be hosting At the Table Events. There's still an opportunity to host your own event on that day if you would like. Check out the information about At the Table on the CYCC website here: http://www.ourclimate.ca/wordpress/g8g20-subpages/at-the-table/
The At the Table Campaign runs right up to the G8/G20. If you don't have a chance to do something on Earth Day, you can always do something over the next few months. Let us know about your event and we'll hellp get the word out for you.
